Under your store menu, click on General, then click on Discounts and on Add Discount.
Enter the name of your discount. Select Automatic apply and Force combine to make sure it will be active with other discounts as well.
Under Rules select Contains product. Select your recurring product and variant.
Under Actions select Free Trial and select the free trial duration.
Scroll back to the top of the page and click on Create Promotion.
